Aircraft Noise Charge, Netherlands
Achievements
Research in 1991 by Berenschot has shown that although substantial revenue has been raised, ‘the relationship between the charge level and the actual noise production of the aircraft appeared to be very weak,' (Berenschot cited in EEA 1996, pp61)
Introduced
Aims
- Reduce noise effects from airports
Design
- Aircraft landing at Dutch airports are subject to the charge, in addition to landing fees, at a level reflecting noise levels
- Revenue is earmarked for ‘insulation and redevelopment,' i.e. lessen noise effects from airports (EEA 1996, pp61)
