Denmark announced the endorsement of a €1.8 billion environmental protection strategy focussed on habitat protection and cleaner farming. It is a five year programme and calls for agricultural discharges of K and N to be cut by one third. There is to be a nitrogen trading system. 800,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions are to be cut from farming.
€13.4m annually is earmarked for biogas plants etc. provided that farmers use 50% of manure as energy (ENDS, 2009).
